Yamo leaned heavily on the banister of the airship as shipwrights leaped up and down the masts, battened down hatches and prepared the airship to fly. He began to drift into thoughts and memories he had pushed away since returning to the Hollow. Absently he rubbed the pin on his cloak, twisted dragons rearing toward each other. As he disconnected to the present the past flowed forward to the present.
"Master! We must flee!" Armor clanked as a pair of furres rushed through stone-strewn halls.
"That is exactly what they want, Alian" quipped the larger of the two forms as they rounded the corner.
"But m'lord Yamo! The council has decreed you to be a heretic to the old ways. If you stay you will surely be slain!" pleaded the heavily plated tiger as they reached a heavy metal-banded doorway.
Yamo paused, a paw touched the wood to the next room, fingers traced the dragons that twisted into each other. "Alian ..." with a small breath he said the name, "You have served me well. But you must leave me. Do not worry about those old fools on the council. I will ensure my stewardship will not be questioned." As he finished speaking he spun and slammed a fist into the temple of the other furre. Alian crumpled to the floor with a hefty crunch as the armor contorted his form due to the lack of give to the armor. Yamo quickly adjusted his friend onto the wall opposite the door, with a pat to Alian's head he turned on his heel toward the door.
He reached out and pulled the door open, a startled gasp escaped from the group sitting upon velvet-cushioned high back chairs. Wizened, gnarled faces scrunched in hatred as Yamo filled the void of the doorway. Rumbles of anger and frustration spread through the group gathered within the room. "How dare-" One of the eldest there began to spit.
"How dare I!?" Yamo roared as his form slid into the room, a thick fur cloak flowed around him falling to the ground as he stopped in front of the long table they sat. "You question my stewardship. You sow lies and gossip amongst our troops and nobles. You demand MY presence before you. No.." His eyes snapped from each of the council members that sat there, "How dare you!" His eyes flared with cold fire. "I was given this stewardship by the Emperor Loka himself! He knew you fools would be quick to usurp power and destroy what he has built."
Even more anger spread through the crowd but Yamo continued lifting a paw index digit pointed out he scanned the row slowly, "You take what you wish, and harm those without. I am here to ensure you codded old fools do not ruin the legacy of the Eissarian kingdom." The fire within Yamo's eye flared even more the blue flames licked at the top of his head and floated away his power began to have physical effect on the room. "You did not bleed to push the barbarians from our lands. You did not weep at the funeral pyres of those lost in the war against the 'Pyre Kings. You did not gain the trust and backing of the Magelords to bring the northern territories into line." His fist curled into a fist and slowly lowered to his side, "I will become steward. And if you try and stop me I will see to it that the entire might of the Eissarian Grand Army comes onto you and your conspirators."
Yamo was met with stunned silence, the eyes of all the council members were wide with terror. Good, Yamo thought, perhaps they will consider their positions more carefully.
