These are examples of rules I have set up for other players when playing with my character. They are universal rules that have been around since IIRC. Yes, over time some of the definitions have shifted depending on the system, but these all apply to the Freeform system run by the Hollow. Yes there are some D&D aspects, but only for combat, not RP.
•Metagaming
Metagaming is when a character takes information from Out of Character sources, like forums, or their websites and use them in an In Character situation. You are breaking the fourth walls which are placed there to protect a player’s plot devices. Unless you are Deadpool, breaking the fourth wall in such a manner should not only be impossible, but is very rude. Do not do it.
•Powergaming
Powergaming is when you produce a new character and it is all powerful. No weaknesses seem apparent, and absurd abilities; such as having mastered Marksman training by the age of ten. Or, in the case of Ash Ketchum, it would be equivalent to becoming a Pokemon Master after leaving Pallet Town. It is a matter of acting your age, and if your character is an old man, and not some Shaolin Monk, he will not be able to jump a tall building in a single bound. Do not do it.
•Twinking
An old term, which has changed over time in roleplay. Originally Twinking was associated with godmodding, during combat. In such that controlling another player’s response or reaction to your post is considered godmodding and twinking. As such:
“Jaeger threw the building at the Kaiju, and the Kaiju would easily see it.”
Even something as minimum as that is twinking/godmodding. You must always attempt to throw something and it is up to the Kaiju to see it, but if they ignore your post that is a situation of Powergaming.
•Godmodding
It is the act of taking control of another character’s response or situation without their consent. The only time this is okay is if you have allowed this person to do so. If you did not receive the player's okay, or they did not say otherwise. In another case, Godmodding is also when a player decides to take control of the plot at hand and twist it to their own desires without consulting other players or the present GM (gamemaster). Do not do it.
•IC ↔ OOC
In character, to Out of Character is strictly prohibited. If someone say something to you OOCly and you bring it in character in anger or do something out of spite, you have the right to retcon the RP and block the harasser. If you say something to another in anger, OOCly, brought in from IC, they are allowed to retcon the RP and block you. There are ways to politely bring up a situation that you may, feel OOCly uncomfortable with ICly. Simply tell say so politely, that you are uncomfortable with it. There is no need to blame or accuse. There is no need to bring any of these issues to a person so aggressively because it is a game. Just because a character says and does something does not mean the player will. They are not their player, nor will they ever be. They are not their persona nor are they fursona. I repeat, this is just a game. Do not do it.
•Hey! It’s Private!
On the matter of public Roleplaying. If the area is not private, by any means: PM (private messages), private rooms, private areas: you have no right to tell others to move. Now if you, politely assert people watching you makes you nervous… than it would also probably not be acceptable in a public space in any case. If you do not like people watching or settling to see if the RP is available, or for god forsaken situation a person has to run off for an emergency: them coming back to whispers and harassment of wanting the character or player to leave an area: you should not play on a public space. Do not tell others otherwise. You have all the ability to Roleplay elsewhere. You have zero right to bully others or others from a space of public play. Do not do it.
•Out of Character
Some do not mind talking out of character. Some do mind talking about private things. Some are not here to be your friend. Some have dealt with too many people assuming that person is their friend to the extent of individuals they know IRL. Just so it is out there: some folk find this creepy. Do not drag others into your personal life or try to drag out theirs. Some do not mind listening to your problems, but not every single day. Get off your cross, build a bridge with it: and get over it. Spreading bad energy only breeds bad energy, do not take me with you. Some also do not mind chatting in OOC during roleplay, but some do mind someone trying to constantly prod at every actions they proceed to attempt in Roleplay over OOC. If you attempt to this they may get frustrated, overwhelmed and leave the roleplay. Do not do it.
•Elitism
Being an elitist, in gaming, means you are someone that says you can only do A to get to B even though you can reach B by using Z. It is when you believe your means is the only means to a goal, end or otherwise successful meet and greet. You are an elitist when you assert my character has to have a certain ability or weakness, above my design. You are an elitist when you try and detaily dictate the outcome of my character’s action should have been, regardless of if it is a realistic or fantasy setting. You are an elitist when you attempt to assert that my characters are physically or socially impossible when we have Platypus in real life. Elitsim is when you try to assert that, A must always win over B, but complain when C wins. Do not do it.
Please note if you are confused by the examples, whisper me or an admin, but these are considered common courtesy and many rules in Hollow. Do not do them.
