Suggestion: Idle Boot

I've seen folks go idle in public places and sometimes in the direct path of others (like in the middle of a walkway). While I doubt this is ever intentional, it can be annoying and difficult to navigate around.

In a dream I ran we had code that would automatically boot characters who were idle for a certain amount of time in public areas and send then to the OOC room. It was mildly frustrating to some players, but it doesn't take much to occasionally spin your character if you are actually present.

I know as an admin I try to roam about regularly while on to help clean this up politely. Many of these folks will respond if you whisper them.

I think the personal touch is better. If I find someone blocking my way I'll politely ask them to move. I personally find it annoying to have to deal with idle checks, and since I'm forgetful I usually end up getting booted. Sometimes I am not RPing but my character is idling in a spot where he is, in fact, IC waiting for other people while I might play on another alt or do other things while I wait for someone to come along (most of my characters have an ooc tag saying to whisper me for RP). Then there are situations where you have several people posting in a large RP and, simply due to how long it takes for a full round... well, you get the idea.

In short, I don't particularly mind people idling as long as they aren't in the way, and this dream has never been one to have a serious idling problem. If anything, I wish there were more people sitting around, so I know where everyone is when I look for random little RPs. An idle timer or some such, seems an unnecessary and only marginally useful inconvenience.

We avoid the auto idle 'boot' because if you're in a a place and you're really not idle but your pounce idles you it's well... annoying. The admins have the ability to cuff and move someone or send them to the idle room if they're in the way. If there is an issue with someone taking up a door, say like to the tavern just whisper us and we'll take care of it.

I've been in dreams where I've been sent to an idle place an missed out on RP because I got up to take the dogs out and after like 10 minutes I was sent off. It actually made me up and leave the dream for good.

So in short, whisper the person and ask the move or RP if they don't respond whisper a mod and we'll be happy to idle them into the OOC room.

I didn't know you guys could move people. That's convenient... you should make that more widely known if people are having trouble with idlers.

OKay so ya'll are RPers yeah? Normally in my dream I have idle boot set for 24hrs. In an active RP dream you needn't be idle for more than an hr that means yer afk. Eden and I can boot people into afk and since we aren't getting whispers I can instate an idle boot for about 2hrs or so because if you are gone for that long not doing anything pretty sure yer not RPing.

I am on pretty much 24/7 so da. If there is a boot in de arse that is needed.

The issues is people idle in door ways, a 2 hour boot while someone is idle in a door won't help XD
We can send to the OOC as needed, and all admins can. I can list this in the commands thread of the forums if you'd like.

There are ways to DS around this, even without using regions since I'm pretty sure the dream uses those already, if you'd like me to show. This way there could be no idle boot anywhere except in doorways

Would that apply only to specific doors, or all doorways? Cause if it applies to all doorways it would prevent blocking the doors in private apartments and the like.  Just out of being curious. xD

Public, like for the tavern and small walk ways that are public to get from one place to the other.

It isn't specifically doorways. It's wherever you want, but works best for individual scattered areas. Basically just create a new effect that is invisible. Place it in whatever spots you want to boot people from. Then just use normal idle boot DS, but include line (1:97) in there Can also do it with an item. Obviously it works best with regions, but only if they're not being used for indoor/outdoor purposes as they are in PH

Thank you Heimdall for showing them that now maybe I won't get booted for idling in the infirmary while waiting on people to come in and rp.

Wait why would you get booted from teh infirmary? Unless someones running around tossing you in OOC for the lulz (which it isnt me this time I Swear, even if it is, usually )

Yes, no booting your own shops or homes! Only high traffic RP areas such as 4 hours away and you're sitting at the tavern not RPing. You will find yourself idle'd.
